What others have said

"My name is Sharmina Banu founder of Hawaa Network, a women's organisation run by women for women.

They say that writing a book is like giving birth—it’s long, it’s intense, and it requires a level of vulnerability that most people shy away from. But looking at Rashida today, I don't just see an author. I see a woman who has mastered the art of turning "the process" into "the purpose."

Rashida, standing here today at your book launch, I am overflowing with pride. To the world, this is a celebration of a finished product. But for those of us who have walked beside you, we are celebrating the journey it took to get here.

I watched you in the quiet moments. I saw the struggles—the days when the words wouldn’t come, the nights when life felt heavy, and the sheer grit it took to balance your vision with your reality.

What makes Rashida so special isn’t just her talent; it’s her authenticity. In a world where everyone tries to present a perfect, filtered version of their lives, Rashida chooses to be real. She speaks through her lived experiences. When she talks about her challenges, she isn't looking for pity—she is building a bridge.

Because she is so relatable, she creates a level of respect that is rare. She gives people permission to say, "I’m struggling too," and more importantly, she gives them the hope to believe that struggle isn’t the end of the story.

We’ve seen this impact firsthand at Hawaa Network, specifically through her workshops for women's mental health and wellbeing in the community and for a very special programme called stay and play session for fathers and toddlers.

It’s one thing to teach a class; it’s another thing entirely to change a family’s trajectory. I’ve watched as fathers—who perhaps felt out of place or unsure—found their footing through Rashida’s guidance. She helped them connect with their children in ways they didn't know were possible. She didn't just give them tools; she gave them confidence.

That same spirit is woven into every page of this book. This isn’t just a collection of chapters; it is a roadmap.

So, why does this book matter? Why will it help others navigate their journey with their children?

Because Rashida knows that parenting isn't about being perfect; it's about being present and being brave. This book will be a light for those who feel lost in the fog of raising the next generation. It will remind them that they are not alone and that their journey—no matter how messy—has immense value.

Rashida, you have moved from a place of struggle to a place of profound service. We at Hawaa Network are honored to know you, and the world is lucky to finally have your words."

As a therapist and a Progress Lead in a UK secondary school, I have had a front-row seat to the silent struggles that young people are carrying. The signs are often subtle—a student always “tired,” another who laughs everything off, another who is permanently “on edge,” another who never does homework but never acts out either. And sometimes, the signs are loud and alarming—self-harm, panic attacks, violence, refusal to attend school, and yes, even involvement in knife-related incidents. This book is long overdue. It is not just a collection of helpful chapters—it’s a toolkit for survival, growth, and ultimately, transformation. It is written for the young person who doesn't know how to put their feelings into words. It’s written for the teenager who’s been told they’re “fine” even when they know they’re not. It’s written for the student who feels like asking for help is weakness, when in fact it’s the beginning of healing. The author, Rashida Zaman, brings a rare combination of lived experience, educational insight, and an unwavering heart for youth empowerment. Her words speak directly to the realities our young people are navigating: the overstimulation of social media, the plague of vaping, the toxic culture of comparison, and the emotional shutdown that comes with chronic stress and unresolved trauma. What makes this book particularly unique is its honesty. It doesn't sugar-coat the challenges young people face—it names them. Rashida isn’t afraid to talk about the fact that boys are carrying knives. That girls are silently self-harming. That children as young as 9 are vaping in the open, numbing out emotions they haven’t even learned to name. She is not writing from theory; she is writing from observation, conversation, and a genuine place of concern. As someone who works with teenagers day in and day out—both in classrooms and in therapy rooms—I can say with confidence that this book offers more than just information. It offers connection. It offers strategies. It offers hope. And more importantly, it meets young people where they are, rather than expecting them to have it all figured out.One of the most powerful messages of this book is the reframe that asking for help is not weakness—it’s power. In my own therapy practice, I often meet clients in their 30s and 40s who say they wish they had learned this as teens. That they wouldn’t have spent years hiding, pretending, or bottling up emotions if only someone had normalised vulnerability for them earlier. This book does just that.It doesn’t preach. It teaches. And it does so in a way that is accessible, culturally aware, and grounded in real-life understanding of what teens are going through. Whether it’s the internal chaos of exam pressure or the external noise of social media, Rashida offers practical, digestible advice and reflective insight that can help young people regulate, reset, and rebuild.I truly believe every school, every youth centre, and every parent should have a copy of this book—not just to give to young people, but to understand how to support them better. And to the young person reading this: you are not alone. The pages you are about to read are for you. They are your mirror, your guide, and your invitation to take back control of your story.Rashida Zaman has planted a seed with this book. Now it’s time for us—educators, parents, mentors, and most importantly, young people themselves—to water it.Mohammed AhminClinical HypnotherapistYear 8 Progress Lead – Weavers AcademyDirector, A Couple of Therapists

In this book Rashida fearlessly delves deep into many of the issues faced by today’s youth that are not often openly discussed but are often seen. It’s a common sight now to see young people vaping, for instance, but why are they doing it? Is it grief or trauma related? Are these young people unable to regulate their emotions? These actions, behaviours and ways of thinking not only affect the individual but their family and wider environment too. Rashida doesn’t hide behind the many roles she has in her life; she uses them to elegantly, and with gentle strength, guide her readers and their families towards changing unwanted and unproductive behaviours to help all those involved.

How many of us as parents have wondered about the seemingly dubious choices made by our children regarding friendship groups and the worrying behaviours that stem from these choices? I’m sure we’ve all faced issues where our young people don’t want to talk to us when we can clearly see they are struggling? Wouldn’t it have been useful to have a tool to work through to more readily resolve these and other similar situations?

This book provides an invaluable resource accessible to all who have young people in their lives and those younger individuals themselves. It provides for many a starting point for those difficult conversations and a strategy to work through them towards a positive outcome. Through frank discussion of the various topics and a step-by-step guide approach, Rashida helps the rebuilding of lost connections and poor mental health attitudes enabling our youth to think and analyse for themselves and make better choices.

Thank you, Rashida, for asking me to provide these words for you. Your work is outstanding and exemplary and should be shouted from the rooftops. It is my pleasure and honour to know you.

This book will be a light for those who feel lost in the fog of raising the next generation. It will remind them that they are not alone and that their journey—no matter how messy—has immense value.
